Disto

Disto is a 2022-born Kangal mix—strong, smart, and surprisingly goofy. She was found in a village in Turkey, abandoned and very sick. Her cropped ears suggest she once belonged to someone who expected her to be a guard dog, as is sadly common with Kangals. But Disto isn’t made for harsh duties—she’s built for belly rubs, kisses, and silly zoomies.

After a tough start in life and a miraculous recovery, Disto spent nearly three years in a dog boarding facility. She’s now healthy, spayed, and finally living in a home environment in Rotterdam. What she needs next is a forever home—one that sees her not as a tool, but as the loving, quirky companion she truly is.

Her Health & Background
Disto came into our care in critical condition. With time, treatment, and resilience, she fully recovered. She has since tested clean for all major diseases and received full veterinary care, including vaccinations and spaying.

Big Girl Energy: Life at Home
At home, Disto is clean and calm. She doesn’t bark unnecessarily, doesn’t chew on things, and is fully house-trained. She spends hours lounging around—but don’t let that fool you. When it’s playtime, she comes alive. She loves toys, silly games, and especially tug-of-war. She’s obsessed with mirrors (yes, she watches herself with great interest!), and she adores kisses and cuddles. Truly, she has a soft spot for human affection.

She also has a special fondness for small dogs—she gets extra curious and playful when she sees them.

Social & Outdoor Behavior
Disto gets along well with other dogs and cats, though she needs to be supervised around food or toys when other dogs are present—she might guard what’s hers. If another dog growls, she will respond. She's not dangerous, but she won’t walk away from a challenge either.

On walks, she’s very excited—she pulls a lot and will try to chase birds, ducks, or geese. Leash training is absolutely necessary, especially given her strength.

She knows her name and stays close, but she doesn’t have reliable recall yet. Off-leash is not an option at this stage.

Ideal Home
Disto needs an experienced adopter—someone confident with big dogs and comfortable setting boundaries. She’s not aggressive, but she is strong-willed and powerful. A family willing to invest in training, especially for leash manners and resource guarding, will help her become her best self.

She’s not high-strung or hyperactive, just playful and affectionate. A calm home with structure, no small kids, and possibly a well-matched dog sibling would suit her best.
