Sugar

We are looking for a forever home (golden basket) for our gorgeous, fluffy cat, Sugar. She is 5 years old (almost 6) and she is the sweetest girl - affectionate, easy-going, intelligent and healthy.

Sugar's nickname is Pookie, we mostly call her that....also Squirrel and Rabbit (because of her fluffy rabbit feet).

We got her as a kitten, and she has grown up in Loosdrecht in the beautiful nature, climbing trees, sleeping in the sunshine or in a quiet shady spot, so we would love her to go to a home with a nice garden and surrounded by lots of nature.

Pookie loves to cuddle and be combed gently and she loves to be close to where you are - for example, if you work from home she loves to snooze on your lap or on the desk where you work, and if you are retired she will be a wonderful companion.

She is still playful, she loves to play hide and seek and pounce out of the bushes, and she loves to relax with us when we work in the garden, and she often walks along with us when we walk in the neighbourhood. (No harness, she has never worn one and we do not want her to be put in a harness).

She is an indoor/outdoor cat, she has been raised with a cat flap and she can only go to a home where she is free to go outside when she chooses. She cannot be kept only indoors or in an apartment.

We got Sugar when my daughter was 12 years old, so she can go to a home with a child/children 10 years or older who have been taught how to handle animals respectfully and gently, but our home was fairly relaxed and quiet and she would be best in a similar environment (not a busy, loud environment). She would also be a wonderful companion for a retired person/couple.

Pookie has never lived with a dog, so she cannot go to a home with a dog. And it would be difficult for her to adjust to another cat as she is already an adult (this is difficult for most adult cats), so she would be best going to a home where she is the only pet. Adapting to a new home is already a big adjustment and we don't want to make it more stressful than necessary.

We were home a lot, so we would prefer her to go to a home where there is often someone home, not a home that is empty all day and night every day, and not a home if you travel a lot. When we went on summer vacation, my parents stayed in the house with her. We put her in a cat hotel once but it did not go well and we never did it again, we do not want that for her.

She eats well, a combination of wet food and dry food, and has never been fed human food so she does not wine or beg if you are cooking or eating.

She is micro-chipped, sterilised and vaccinated.

It is due to completely unforeseen circumstances that we need to re-home her, and it is very hard and sad. We really want her to go to an extremely loving, kind home with a lovely garden, lots of nature, and lots of company and attention.

We (mom and daughter) have already relocated overseas, so I (mom) will be communicating with you online via messages or video call (I understand basic Dutch but my daughter is 17 and she is fluent in Dutch and can help translate if necessary.

If you want to meet Pookie you will be visiting her at home in Loosdrecht where she lives with my husband. You will meet her with either my husband, or our neighbour who helps to care for Pookie as my husband travels a lot for work so he is often away.
