Meet Sylvester, Our Wonder Boy

Sylvester’s story with us began when he was just two months old, after he was found trapped inside a car engine with an injured leg. He was rushed straight to the vet, and despite such a frightening start, we quickly discovered what an incredibly friendly, playful and sweet little kitten he was.

His leg healed completely, he grew stronger, and we were certain this wonderful little boy would soon find a family of his own.

But somehow, that never happened.

Short-haired rescue cats can easily be overlooked in Bahrain, and Sylvester has now spent almost his entire life in foster care. That tiny kitten is four years old today, and he is still waiting for someone to discover just how special he is.

And there is so much to love about Sylvester.

He is gentle, affectionate, playful and incredibly devoted to his person. He can be a little hesitant when meeting someone new or entering an unfamiliar environment, but give him a couple of days to observe, settle in and realise he is safe, and you’ll soon have a little shadow following you around the house.

Sylvester will greet you when you come home, meow when he wants your attention and happily sleep beside you at night. He loves his pets and head butts, and he’ll happily settle on your lap for some quality time.

He also has a rather adorable favourite spot: his person’s shoulder. He loves being up there, close to you, and will happily perch on your shoulder when given the chance.

He loves wand toys, bird watching, exploring the house, long naps and sunbathing in his favourite sunny spot. He’s also a fan of high places where he can keep an eye on everything happening around him.

And food is definitely another way to Sylvester’s heart, thankfully, our boy isn’t picky!

He’s also remarkably respectful of furniture. No scratching or tearing things apart; apparently, this wonder boy understands exactly what scratching posts are for.

Like every cat, Sylvester has his boundaries. Belly rubs are a definite no, but pets, head rubs and affection are very much welcome. He simply likes having a say in how he receives his love.

Sylvester needs to be the only cat in his forever home, as he does not enjoy sharing his space with other cats. He can, however, live with calm and respectful dogs.

More than anything, we want someone to look beyond him simply being another short-haired black-and-white cat and see who he actually is — the affectionate boy who greets you at the door, the little shadow following you from room to room, the shoulder-perching companion, the head-butter, the bedtime buddy and the sweet, playful wonder boy who has been waiting almost his entire life to belong to someone.

Sylvester is completely healthy and fully vetted, vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and parasite-treated. He has also tested negative for FIV, FeLV and Mycoplasma.

Our adoption fee is €275, which helps cover part of his veterinary and relocation costs from Bahrain, while also allowing Rescat to continue rescuing abandoned cats and supporting our TNR programme.
