Omschrijving

Mercury is a gentle, affectionate German Shepherd–Belgian Malinois mix who is slowly learning to trust people and enjoy life.

He was rescued from a shelter in Turkey where living conditions were extremely poor. After everything he experienced, he was very frightened and struggled to trust people. He now lives with a foster family in the Netherlands, where he is gradually becoming more confident.

When Mercury first arrived at his foster home, he immediately found a quiet corner where he felt safe and preferred to observe everything from a distance. With patience, affection and a calm environment, he has slowly started to come out of his shell.

Mercury is currently a very calm and easygoing dog. When he feels comfortable and has someone nearby, he is happy spending most of the day relaxing. He enjoys human companionship and prefers not to be left alone for too long, especially while adjusting to a new environment.

He can be shy around unfamiliar people and is particularly frightened of men. He needs a gentle approach, patience and time to build trust. His future family should respect his boundaries and allow him to progress at his own pace.

Mercury walks well on a leash, rarely pulls and responds to gentle guidance. He has no particular barking issues. Although he gets along with other dogs, he can sometimes feel intimidated by them. He is quite alert around cats, so a home without cats would probably be preferable. If his future family has cats, introductions would need to be gradual and carefully supervised.

Mercury has no known toilet-training problems, but he feels more comfortable relieving himself in familiar, secure environments, particularly in a garden. A home with a secure garden would be ideal, although it is not essential. Without a garden, he would benefit from frequent walks, especially during his first weeks in a new home.

We are looking for a calm, patient and understanding family, preferably with experience caring for shy or fearful dogs. Having someone around during his initial adjustment period would be particularly beneficial.

One important thing to understand about Mercury is that we are still discovering his true personality.

As a German Shepherd–Belgian Malinois mix, he comes from breeds generally known for their intelligence, energy and need for physical and mental stimulation. However, Mercury is currently remarkably calm.

We don’t yet know whether his calmness is part of his natural personality or related to his past experiences. As he becomes more confident, he may develop into a more energetic and playful dog, or he may remain just as calm as he is today.

His future family should be prepared to accept both possibilities and adapt to his needs as his personality continues to develop.

Mercury has already made wonderful progress in his foster home. Now, we hope to find a family who will continue this journey with him, give him the patience and security he needs, and offer him a loving forever home. 🤎

Toelichting

Merkür travelled to the Netherlands after 4 months of procedures. His vaccinations are done and he has a valid passport and travel titration test. We ask for an adoption contribution of 500 euros to help us continue the work in rescueing and rehabilitating more dogs and cats in Turkey although the actual costs of procedures to rehome dogs from Turkey are higher. Stichting Verhuisdieren is aware of these higher adoption costs and has given permission due to high costs for Turkish animals.

Be his hero, contact us (e-mail/whatsapp) if you're interested to adopt Merkür🙂
