Meet Milo (preferably together with Teddy) 🐾

Milo, affectionately known as “Milmaatje,” is a 3-4 month old street puppy, from Greece, likely a Balkan Street Dog mix. He is expected to grow into a medium-sized dog. With his beautiful brown-and-white coat, Milo is slightly larger than his brother Teddy. Over the past few weeks, the two brothers have been introduced to family and vanlife while staying with friends of ours. This has helped them grow into happy, social, and curious puppies, while still keeping their playful puppy spirit.

Since arriving with us this week, Milo and Teddy have settled in remarkably quickly. They immediately showed their friendly, confident, and adventurous personalities and get along wonderfully with our dog, Meeko.

🩺 Health

Both puppies received a full veterinary check-up after being rescued. Blood tests for common street-dog diseases, including leishmaniasis, were negative. Because some diseases have longer incubation periods, a follow-up test around three months after arrival in the Netherlands is recommended.

Their vaccinations are documented in their passports. They have received their rabies vaccination and initial puppy vaccinations, although their vaccination schedule is not yet complete. They should receive their DHPPL vaccination soon.

They have also been dewormed and treated for fleas and ticks. As an extra precaution, another deworming treatment in the near future is recommended.

At his last vet visit, Milo weighed 6 kg and has no known health concerns.

🍽️ Food

The puppies currently eat puppy kibble four times a day, about 30-40 grams per meal. Both are enthusiastic eaters and still a little lean, so feeding slightly generously while following age- and weight-based guidelines is advised.

We also use mealtimes for training, hand-feeding kibble while practising basic commands and name recognition. Milo quickly learned that hearing his name and making eye contact earns him a reward.

❤️ Personality

At first, Milo was often the first one to explore new things. Being slightly bigger and stronger than Teddy, he naturally took the lead. As he settled in, however, he revealed a calm, gentle, and affectionate nature.

Milo loves cuddles and happily climbs onto your lap whenever he gets the chance. Around food he can be a little cheeky, occasionally begging or jumping up, but he responds well to consistent training and positive reinforcement.

As a former street puppy, he is still interested in food he finds outdoors and may investigate things lying on the ground. This will likely improve as he becomes more accustomed to regular meals.

🧠 Training & House Training

We have focused mainly on name recognition, sitting, and walking on a leash. Milo is intelligent, food-motivated, and learns quickly. With patience and consistency, he is likely to make excellent progress.

He is also doing exceptionally well with house training. He has not had a single accident in the house or van and consistently does his business outside. At night, he may still need an occasional toilet break, as he is very young.

🚗 Travel, Water & New Experiences

Milo travels very well and usually sleeps through car rides. He can swim and even joined a paddleboard adventure completely on his own initiative.

One of Milo’s most impressive qualities is his confidence. He is curious, adaptable, and rarely intimidated by unfamiliar situations.

🐾 Final Thoughts

Over the past few weeks, Milo has made incredible progress. He has grown from a street puppy into a happy, social young dog who is well on his way to becoming a wonderful family companion. While he still has plenty to learn, he is loving, intelligent, and remarkably adaptable.
